Transgender A Presidential Appointee

Wonderful news from the White House today as President Barack Obama named Amanda Simpson to be a Senior Technical Advisor to the Commerce Department.Amanda is believeded to be the first transgender person to be appointed a position in a US senior government position.
She is quoted as saying….. “as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others.â€
A former test pilot, Ms. Simpson transgendered from man to woman in the 1990’s. She was quite a key factor in convincing Raytheon to add gender identity and expression to its equal employment opportunity policy. She now hopes that she can do the same in the US government.
