Do You Have A Tranny Gene
January 5th, 2008 by Babe
An Australian research centre found that transsexuals who ‘feel female’ often have an unusual version of a gene which reduces levels of the male sex hormone testosterone.
This could mean transsexuals are born with a ‘more female-like brain’ when developing in the womb.
Its a common misconception that transsexualism is a lifestyle choice. There is now a study that’s showing what most of us already know – there is a biological basis of how gender identity develops.
The Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research in Victoria, Australia looked at analysis from 112 male-to-female transsexual volunteers.
The researchers also acknowledge other genes may have a part to play in the development of transsexuals. The Institute now plans to see if the results can be replicated in a larger population.
The findings are published in the journal Biological Psychiatry.
“This supports the notion that transsexualism has a biological (genetic) basis rather than being due to psychosocial factors in early childhood,” added Professor Andrew Sinclair, from the University of Melbourne.
“However, this finding does not explain all male-to-female transsexuals suggesting that multiple genetic factors are involved.”
