Thai Katoeys Are Good Luck In Thailand Society
October 24th, 2008 by BabeSo what exactly is a Thai Katoey. A Thai Katoey or Thai ladyboy is actually transgender Thai male person who choose to live his life as a woman.
In Thailand, they are also better known as phyuing praphet song which means “a second kind of woman”.
In fact, there is an old tale in northern Thailand which stated that in the beginning, there was this couple (a real man and a real woman) who had three childrens. The 1st one is a true male, the 2nd one a true female but the 3rd one is a mixture of both or a third sex - a gay, a ladyboy.
Why are katoeys so common in Thailand?
Thai ladyboy’s are renowned for their exceptional beauty. Some of them are even more beautiful than a real Thai woman.
There is a misconception that most of the Thai katoeys work in the night-life industry. Many of these beautiful transgender women hold regular jobs, and can be found in just about every industry of the nation.
Thailand has become famous for it’s beauty contests. These famous ladyboys are perfectly made up, coiffed and draped in glamorous gowns, convincingly masking their hidden truth that they were all born boys.
In the Western world, we tend to be astounded that Thai society is so open with regards to their Katoeys. Thailand is actually a Buddhist country, and the essence of Buddhism is about tolerance and forgiveness.
The Thais take reincarnation and karma very seriously. They believe that if a man had commited too many sins and adulteries in his past life, he will be born into a ladyboy or katoey as a form of punishment for all the bad and evil things he had done. (It’s not unusual for katoeys to wish that they will be reborn into a real man in their next life!)
Thais’ believe that these ladyboys deserve a place in their society and that by acknowledging themĀ it will help lighten their punishment a bit. Some Thais even believe that Thai ladyboy can bring them good luck.
